{Wherever you are, be all there! – Jim Elliot}

Hey there! I’m Courtney- just a girl navigating my 20s and discovering this beautiful life. I look forward to sharing my thoughts, adventures, tales of being a wannabe at home chef and decorator,  and much more!

I grew up a proud Army kid, which meant moving around a lot. I used to think that I was missing out on things by moving so often, but looking back, I can now truly see how much of a blessing this was. It has made me who I am today, and has led to such a sense of comfort in the home I’ve found here in Kansas over the past seven years (hence the name- tallgrass musings)! The journeys of an Army kid took me a little bit of everywhere- Germany, Kansas (a few times), Pennsylvania, South Carolina and South Korea. I can’t imagine a life any different.

After high school, I set out on the college adventure. I graduated from Kansas State University in May 2013 with a B.A. in Political Science and a secondary major in International Studies. {Go Cats!} I have a deep interest in global and political issues, and any of my friends will tell you about my love all things security related. While in college, outside of the classroom, I had the opportunity to be able to work with K-State’s New Student Services department learning from some amazing and impactful leaders. Through these experiences, I discovered another passion- working with current, future and past students and staff members who share a love for all things purple. It is truly something special to be surrounded by such genuine and talented people! Fast forward to my second Senior year (a 5th year called my name), I was very blessed to have my collegiate passion collide with an opportunity for my first post-grad job at K-State! Hail, Hail, Hail , Alma Mater- it is always a great day to be a Wildcat. 🙂

One of the biggest things I love in life is traveling. There is something so splendid about getting lost in a new place and discovering paths unknown. What can be better? I am a Food Network and HGTV junkie. Baking, cooking, craft time? I’m in! The kitchen is my happy place, I believe that the such joy can come from sharing a meal with friends and family. I find peace in the quiet hours of recipe testing or brainstorming. It is safe to say that many things have been burned, dropped or over-cooked in my kitchen, but hey, it’s okay…all part of life’s adventure! I like to think that I’ve been making good decisions in this whole “young adult financial responsibility” thing, but let’s be real….I live really close to a Marshalls (hello, weakness). We all know how that ends. All things Downton Abbey make me happy, and I’m lucky to have friends that are always up for discussing the latest episode. Give me a softball bat and a glove and you’ve found a way straight to my heart. I’ve got a love for the Lord, and am constantly amazed by the Grace he gives. {Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. -Proverbs 19:21}

Basically, I’m just a girl. Trying to figure it all out. Stay tuned for what’s to come! 🙂
