Saturdays are made for adventures! We’re gearing up for another round of Winter weather here starting later tonight, so today was the perfect day for a mini-trip to Leonardville- home of Nelson’s Landing. The drive from Manhattan to the small town is pretty quick, just about 25 minutes, but it is definitely lovely and peaceful. It was so great to catch up with two great friends as we drove through the Kansas countryside.
Nelson’s Landing is a family owned restaurant that is serving up some tasty eats. I am such a fan of local dining. You might be familiar with the restaurant owner’s son….Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Jordy Nelson. Jordy is also a K-State Football grad, so there is tons of K-State and Green Bay memorabilia on display throughout the restaurant.
They serve a little bit of everything, but here’s a snapshot of what today’s specials are- perfect for a chilly day where it is currently sitting at about 15 degrees. Most importantly…there’s also a list of the pies that they are serving up. After we ate our lunch, we admitted that we were insanely full. Did that stop us from going for the pie that is well-known as being extra tasty? Nope!
Being the responsible taste-testers that we are, we decided that we obviously had to get three different kinds so we could share and not repeat. Definitely one of our best ideas. We checked out the Apple Crumb, Butterfinger and Banana Cream- all very tasty but we voted Banana Cream as the best! 🙂
With full stomachs and happy hearts, it was time to head home. If you’re ever in the area, definitely make Nelson’s Landing a stop on your Kansas travels. As I sit here and laugh thinking about our adventure today, I am especially reminded of how important it is to cherish the little moments and memories that make life great!
Enjoy your Saturday! This girl is off to the grocery store to pick up a few snowy day staples! 🙂
